Singer-creator Nanajyuhachi "I want to start dancing this year"

ree

Please introduce yourself.

I'm Nanajyuhachi, a singer and creator from Tokyo.

Please tell us what inspired you to start making music.

I grew up in Shimokitazawa and my family worked in creative jobs, so I naturally liked music and art from an early age. I started out with singing, but I also had interests in design, illustration, instruments... I was obsessed with jazz bass in junior high school and went on to an art school in high school.

I just loved to sing, and I deepened my love for singing by playing in a cover band and performing covers until high school, but I wanted to express myself more, so I started writing lyrics and composing music when I entered a music university. I was a singing major, but when I first came into contact with digital music in a minor class, I thought, "What is this...! It's fun...!" and before I knew it, I was hooked. Now, all of these experiences have become the core of my musical activities.

Tell us about your latest release.

"kawaiii" is a work that I produced entirely by myself, from the lyrics and music to the track and jacket. I post short videos with content titled "Making songs using everyday sounds," and this song was created with the theme of "I tried making a song that will give you a boost in self-esteem with the sound of opening your lips."

I think the word "kawaii" is a uniquely Japanese expression that is known around the world. The extra "i" is a play on my "I" and expresses my desire for you to create your own kawaii. I hope you will listen to this song as if you were casting a spell on yourself every morning when you put on your makeup.

This is one of my favorite songs and it was the first music video I directed and edited entirely for.

Is there anything new you want to start this year?

This year I want to start dancing. It will help me develop a sense of rhythm and groove, and more than anything, I want to strengthen my core.

I was in a cultural club when I was a student, so I really only did exercise during gym class.

Once I'm able to dance live, I'll be able to enjoy expressing myself even more.

Please let me know if there are any future announcements.

We have been doing crowdfunding to produce our first full album, and I hope you will look forward to that this year. We have been receiving requests for us to perform live outside of Tokyo, so this year is the year we will be able to go and see you.

I just want to get excited about music together with everyone. I will continue to work hard so that I can bring even a little brightness to the daily lives of those who listen to my music.

Seventy-eight
