Please introduce yourself.
This is MSKNG (Misa King), the guitarist and vocalist of Water Maze.
Together with the other members, he also writes lyrics, composes music, and creates artwork.
Please tell us what inspired you to start making music.
It may be a gradual thing.
I was good at drawing and writing poetry from an early age, and was a fairly cultural type, but I think I started to pay attention to music when I was in the upper grades of elementary school. I don't remember exactly when it started, but from that time on, I started to dig deeper and listen to artists that the kids around me didn't know yet. My parents weren't interested in music, so I mainly watched YouTube and bought used CDs at thrift stores. I think that gradually I started to feel like I wanted to be a musician in the future.
Then one day, probably when I was in junior high school, I saw a documentary on a major band on TV, which led me to learn about the concepts of "live houses" and "indie bands," and I became interested in more DIY band culture. As I browsed not only YouTube but also mixi communities and band blogs at the time, I began to spend more time thinking about rock bands.
Then, when I was in the second year of junior high school, my love for bands intensified, so I asked my mother, who was living separately from me, to buy me a beginner's electric guitar set. I had the opportunity to perform live in the gymnasium at a school event once, but I hardly practiced after that, so I really regret it.
When I entered high school, I had decided to play in a band outside of school, so I had no intention of joining the light music club, but a friend urged me to join as a drummer. However, I really wanted to play the guitar, so I quit after six months and decided to focus on the overseas band I had already formed with other members. I started performing at live events little by little, mainly covering the overseas garage rock revival scene and punk bands from the late 70s, as well as playing original songs.
Shortly after the band broke up after graduating from high school, I became a backing guitarist and sub-vocalist for a band called Sansar Love Calls. It was around that time that I started my "full-scale musical career," making CDs, recording, shooting videos, and touring.
After disbanding in 2022, we met the current members and created Water Maze, which is where we are today.
Tell us about your latest release.
The 3rd EP "Submarine Conductor" is now available.
As for "Motion," the lyrics, melody, and chords came to me and it only took a second for me to present them to the other members, so I never expected to get such a positive response. I'm truly grateful to the other members who helped me come up with this incredible arrangement, to ALI who made an incredible music video, and to my friends who helped with the filming. I think this is a work that truly lets you experience the "chemical reaction" that is the best part of being in a band. If you haven't listened to it or seen the video yet, be sure to check it out!

Please tell us about your preferences for equipment.
I love the famous fuzz pedal "Big Muff" from Electro-Harmonix, and this is my second one. There are many models, but the model I use is the current model "Big Muff Pi," which was the first pedal I bought when I was 15 years old.

The universe begins the moment you step on the switch and the light comes on. I think it's a treasure of life. I was a high school student at the time, so I bought it for some reason because I heard that Jimi Hendrix uses it, but after I went into the studio and played it, I was completely captivated, and I probably played it at full ten (all knobs turned up to max) until the end of high school. Looking back, I think it was quite courageous (laughs). Since then, I have never taken it off my starting lineup, and I hope to continue growing old with it.
Please let me know if there are any future announcements.
I'll be releasing an EP in the summer. Look forward to it!
